Dead: Sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro

General Motors has announced the end of production of the Chevrolet Camaro in 2024 for the generation. Another American muscle icon bites the dust — but Chevy says this isn’t the end of the road vehicle as we know it; we just don’t know what will happen. The last car will roll off the production line at the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in January of next year.
The Camaro’s future is still bright, according to Chevy — but it’s just not fully defined. The company stated: “While we don’t announce the next successor today, rest assured, the Camaro will be replaced at some point in the future.” If GM goes the way of many other American muscle cars, this could very well mean that an electrified Camaro is coming, but it’s still entirely up in the air.

To top off the vehicle’s styling, GM plans to release a Collector’s Edition package for the 2024 Camaro — but again, details are yet to be revealed. We do know, however, that Chevy offers this package on the Camaro RS and SS, as well as the ZL1-equipped engines.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone familiar with the industry; in fact, we reported that the writing was on the wall for this iconic vehicle in 2021. Back then, we were reading reports that there would be 2,000 Library Edition models, and that they would be decked out in yellow. Will it be true? Time will tell — but until we have all the details, I think it’s safe to say it’s time to start mourning this generation of American muscle.
