NEW YORK – A Manhattan grand jury examining Donald Trump’s alleged role in the hush money payment to a porn star is not expected to hear evidence in the case next month largely because of a gap in the schedule, according to a person familiar with the matter. to go

A break would push the former president’s announcement to late April, when it is possible that the grand jury slate could change. In recent weeks, the Manhattan district attorney’s office has not convened a meeting on certain days. But Alvin Bragg’s prerogative is to ask the District Attorney to reconvene grand jurors if prosecutors want to join the panel in a previously planned breakout.
The grand jury, which heard testimony in Trump’s case on Monday, did not convene on Wednesday and is expected to examine evidence in the separate case on Thursday, the person said. The grand jury, which typically meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, is expected to consider another case next week on Monday and Wednesday, he said, and is not expected to meet Thursday because of the Easter holiday.
In the following two weeks, a gap was set that was scheduled when the grand jury was convened in early January, the person said.
A spokesman for the Manhattan district attorney’s office declined to comment.
No official indictment has been announced against Trump, although in recent weeks there have been signs that a grand jury vote is imminent, especially since Trump’s accusers have been given the opportunity to testify before the panel. That is typically one of the last steps of a criminal investigation. Trump declined the invitation.
Trump’s accusers are looking into an alleged role in a $130,000 payment made to an adult guest of Hurricane Daniels who said she had an affair with the former president. He denied the matter and all wrongdoing with payment.
The grand jury did not hear much of the evidence in the Trump case last week. On Monday, former National Enquirer editor David Pecker testified before the board for the second time.
