WASHINGTON – Tensions flared between the United States and Israel after President Joe Biden criticized Israeli leaders’ decision to withdraw from the nation’s judicial system and said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not quickly extend an invitation to the White House.
Speaking to reporters in North Carolina, Biden said Tuesday that he is concerned about the state of democracy in Israel after the proposed judicial overhaul sparked protests against public highways. Netanyahu put the decision on Monday.

“Like many supporters of Israel, I am very concerned,” Biden said. “And it motivates me to get this right. They cannot continue in this way.”
Asked if he planned to invite Netanyahu to the White House, Biden said “not in the next term.”
